These are the membership fees. With this in mind our pack will do fundraising multiple times throughout the year to help keep our costs of scouting low and affordable to all scouts and scouters alike. We currently do not plan to add any additional Pack dues, however that is contingent on our fundraising efforts and success.
The value of Scouting is undeniable for those within the program and the greater public, and the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is committed to continuing to offer this unmatched opportunity to young people and families nationwide. As costs on many daily goods and services continue to rise dramatically, the BSA has worked to keep its membership fee as low as possible.
To ensure the organization has the resources to fulfill the promise of Scouting, the following national membership fee structure.
Effective April 1, 2024, the BSA will implement the following national membership fees which were approved by the National Executive Committee:
$85 for Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing and Sea Scouting participants ($5 increase)
$65 for all adult volunteers ($15 increase to provide general liability insurance and enhanced background checks)
$15 for Scout Life magazine (if purchased direct from ScoutLife.org the cost is $24 per year)
**New for 2024** the National Capital Area Council has instituted a Program Participation Fee. This fee is $80 per scout.
Here is an example of what can be expected.
$85 (National Fee) + $80 (NCAC Participation Fee) = $165.00 this is for a 1 Year Membership to BSA and the Pack. If ScoutLife is desired that is an additional $15
The national membership fee helps cover the cost of essential services, including program resources, liability insurance for those participating in approved Scouting activities, criminal background checks, youth protection, and the development of intellectual property for national, council, and unit programs. As BSA moves forward, the organization will continue to look at the membership fee structure and how we deliver the Scouting program for future generations. Across the country and in each of our communities, we know that Scouting remains one of the most valuable investments we can make in youth today so they can become the leaders we will turn to tomorrow.
Our dedicated volunteers, staff, and Scouting families make this possible. Thank you for continuing to support one of the most valuable opportunities available to young people today.
